Time to break down the modal silos in modern transportation. Aviation and surface transportation have people and ideas that can each help the other mode.
At the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in Washington, DC on January 25, 2006, two presentations were made that collectively illustrated an opportunity for cross fertilization of concepts.
The surface transportation technology cluster known as Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) and the air transportation technology development effort called Next Generation Air Transportation System (NGATS) each have work in progress that could help the other.
